UNSUNG HEREOS

After many dedicated years service as a car driver for CHAIN, Bill Abbot has retired due to ill health. We thank him sincerely and wish him well.
Well done Ron Tarry for all the years (20) as Hungerford’s NWN columnist. Now you have the time, perhaps you can do some articles for CHAIN MAIL?
Please note you have until only 30th APRIL 2009 to use the
current tokens.
(DARK RED & LIGHT
PINK)
We want your money
Not just any old money, but your RED PLASTIC money. That is we would like
you to bring into CHAIN’s office any
old unused Plastic Tokens, before the 21st of April. CHAIN
can put the ‘’’Old’’ to ‘’New’’
uses. So to all of you that have some left please bring them to CHAIN
because after the end of APRIL they are absolutely useless!
Volunteering for THE ROSE OF HUNGERFORD
In1990,
following extensive restoration, the Kennet and Avon Canal was reopened
by Her Majesty the Queen. Since then our local trip boat, Rose of Hungerford,
has become an extremely popular attraction for both local people and those
on holiday here and has been used for thousands of public trips and private
parties. For each trip Rose is crewed by a captain, a helmsman and at least
two other crew members all of whom are volunteers living in or within a
few miles of Hungerford.
Of course, as time goes by and people come and go, our crew numbers fluctuate
and we are always in need of new people to join us. If you enjoy being out
of doors come rain or shine, and would appreciate slowing down your pace
of life to a speed of approximately 3 mph, why not consider a new ‘hobby’.
You would be given full training in all aspects of canal boating including
working locks, serving in our on-board bar/kitchen and steering Rose and,
if you wish, further training taking you on to Captain level. If you are
aged over 18 and this seems like an attractive way of spending time in the
fresh air please telephone our crew trainer Graeme Dewhirst who will welcome
your call and be pleased to answer any questions you may have.
Graeme’s telephone number is 01635 30404.

The Download is a new web site which has been set up to provide information for young people. All young people are invited to contribute articles, reviews, dates for forthcoming events as well as issues of concern or debate.
The site is aimed at 13-19 year olds and has been initiated by the Downland Youth Project and is sponsored by Vodafone.
By contributing, you can build up hours towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award,
Arts Award or
V Involved – it will also look good on your CV or personal statement.
Make contact via the web site www.wbdownload.org.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!
