Hungerford September 2011
Neighbourhood Police Team
Considering the Month of August has been the summer holidays, we have seen
very few reports involving anti-social behaviour. We have attended Park Way
and Penny Farthing Close to incidents involving young adults causing a nuisance
and affecting the area in which they live. Residents should not have to put
up with ongoing Anti-social behaviour which impacts on quality of life. If
you are experiencing ASB in your area then Hungerford Policing Team would
like to hear about it.
Throughout the disorder in London we received no reports of any problems within
Hungerford. However after the events a 19-year old man has been charged in
connection with the recent public disorder seen across the Thames Valley.
A male from Church Street, Hungerford has been charged under the Malicious
Communications Act. The charges relate to messages posted on social networking
site Facebook on the 9th August where it is alleged he incited people to commit
disorder in Newbury Town Centre. He has been bailed to appear at West Berkshire
Magistrates' Court on the 6th September.
We are receiving calls from local landowners and Gamekeepers around the Hungerford,
Lambourn and Kintbury area. We had many reports of a green Subaru legacy causing
damage, hare coursing and poaching in the area. The vehicle was displaying
“In Trade” number plates. The police have located this vehicle
which had been set alight and abandoned in the Wokingham area. We have since
been informed about a green Discovery and a red 4x4 vehicle seen in similar
circumstances and similar areas of the patch. If there are any sightings of
vehicles matching these descriptions acting suspiciously then please call
Thames Valley Police as soon as possible on 101
or 999 if a crime is being committed.
Two Newbury offenders have been charged with shoplifting after they stole
bags of groceries from Texaco Service Station in Hungerford on the evening
of 10th August. Police were immediately on the case stopping the vehicle with
the stolen goods on board on the offenders way home. One male was remanded
in custody and one male has been bailed to Newbury Magistrates court.
On the 28th August we have received another report of theft from a motor vehicle
after it was left insecure. A handbag had been hidden on the rear seat whilst
the car was parked at the Dun Mill Lock in Hungerford. We constantly have
to remind people to secure their vehicles. Also, take all belongings with
you, even if you have locked your vehicle, a suspect would be likely to smash
the window to gain access to your property. Please don’t let it be an
easy target for thieves.
Two males from Newbury have been arrested and put on police bail after an
incident occurred in the street in Lancaster Close on the evening of 2nd August.
Residents of the community called police after a male was seen entering the
close wielding a baseball bat. A disorder broke out between 5-6 people and
2 persons have been arrested and returning to Newbury Police Station in September.
