A Northern town that is involving the community in growing food in public and private spaces. Vegetable beds in school playgrounds, in care home grounds, the station car park , herb planters on the station platform and even raised beds in the graveyard are all part of the plan to increase the amount of locally grown food :

Click on the tree (centre image, bottom row) to see the Abundance Project. Abundance is a project using volunteers to collect the seasonal glut of local fruit that is unused / going to waste and redistribute it to the local community on a not for profit basis.
The Food Group aims to encourage people to choose locally produced food in season. By eating food in season storage, packaging and transportation are reduced - all of which contribute in some way to climate change, traffic, waste and pollution. In addition, by sourcing food grown locally when you can, you are, supporting local producers and businesses which improves the local economy and employment opportunities. By sourcing as much of your food as possible from local producers or by starting to grow some of your own you are taking steps to reduce your carbon footprint. You may also be improving the nutritional value of what you eat if you are eating fresh food in season and getting some exercise if you are growing your own! The Food Group aims to encourage people to choose local seasonal food by a number of activities :

Come along to our stall at the Farmers Market, High Street, Hungerford on the 4th Sunday of every month and see what we are up to - there's always something seasonal to taste, a free seasonal recipe leaflet and something for the kids to do (if you don't mind them getting their hands dirty).
